Julie (Went) Jones lettered three years in women’s tennis. She played on three NAIA National Championship teams (1987-88-89) and earned NAIA All-America honors in each of those three seasons. As a sophomore, Went helped the Saints win their first national title. In 1988, she posted a record of 24-1 and helped Flagler successfully defend its national title. Flagler won by more points than any other team in the history of the tournament, men’s or women’s. The ’88 team was nicknamed “The Dream Team.” Went teamed with Petra Ohlsson and were the national runners-up in the doubles competition. As a senior, she posted a 26-0 record in singles competition and helped the Saints to its third title in as many years. Went was the national runner-up in the singles tournament. Went and Catharina Persson became the first tandem from Flagler to win the national doubles competition. She excelled on the court and in the classroom. A two-time Scholar-Athlete, she was on the Dean’s List for four terms and graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor’s in recreation management.
