The 1977 men’s tennis team won the NAIA National Title by defeating Southwest Texas State 31-24, the first of two titles the men would win. Gordon Jones was selected as the Ward Ballinger Outstanding Player of the tournament and was the singles champion. Jones teamed with Jim Twigg, a Flagler Athletic Hall of Famer, to win the doubles title at the ’77 NAIA National Championships. Jones earned NAIA All-America honors in singles and doubles while Twigg earned All-America honors in doubles. David Haddad picked up honorable mention All-America accolades. Members of the team were: Jones, Twigg, Haddad, Ricky Ponti, Robert Hollis, Rupert Green, Mike Lege, Barry Thompson, Mike Chimento and Head Coach Peter Scott.
