CLINTON, MISS. – The Flagler women's volleyball team traveled to Clinton, Miss. to play day one of the PBC-GSC Crossover where they faced the host Mississippi Christian University powering over them in the fifth set to take the win.

The Short Story: In the opening match on day one of the PBC-GSC Crossover, the Saints start off hot with winning set one, but the Choctaws go back-and-forth but it wasn't enough to hold back the Saints.
OPENING VOLLEY
- Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week Marley Middlebrooks lead the charge for the Saints, with her fourth double-double in a row with 20 kills and 17 digs on the night.
- Gia Lowe added 10 kills, four digs and one assist.
- Outside Hitter Mar'ley Phillips had an eventful night, turning in eight kills, two assists, one ace and nine digs.
- Rookie setters Jilly Young and Bella Law split time tonight. Young made 20 assists and one ace, while Law had 17 assists, three kills, and eight digs.
THE DIFFERENCE
- After staying tied at 7-7 the Saints went on a four-point run from one ace and three attacking errors to get ahead in the opening set. Flagler capitalized on three self-inflicted errors by the Choctaws and two kills from the Saints to take the opening set 25-22.
- The second frame, the Saints fell behind 6-11, going into the halfway point. Flagler tried to make a comeback going on a 5-3 run but was over powered two kills and an error to go down 19-25.
- Even though the Saints took the third set, it was a big back-and-forth match up for both teams to try and get the upper hand. Lowe tried to get a rally going off a kill to go ahead 12-11 but was shut down by two self-inflicted attacking errors. The Saints pushed through and Lowe got the final kill to end the set 25-22.
- The Saints couldn't keep up with the Choctaws in the fourth set, taking the lead early and often. In an attempt for the Saints to inch their way back, it just wasn't in the cards making the score 19-25. The Saints had six more errors in this set along with the Choctaws having a .276 hitting percentage and having six blocks to the Saints three.
- Flagler kicked it into high gear this final set and once they got ahead, they weren't looking back. Mississippi Christian wasn't going down without a fight, but with the Saints having a hitting percentage of .368 and zero attacking errors, those were the big turning points for the last frame coming out 15-9.
NOTABLES
- This win makes the Saints 7-2, which is now their best start to a season since 2020.
COMING UP
The Saints will play against the University of Montevallo tomorrow on day two of the PBC-GSC Crossover at 4 p.m. (CT) in the A.E. Wood Coliseum.
