Larkin leads Flagler track & field at Electric City Invite

ANDERSON, S.C.- The Flagler men's track and field team competed at the Electric City Invitational on Friday, April 14.

Luke Larkin led the Saints in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.30 to finish in ninth place. The freshman currently holds the fourth fastest time in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region at 1:52.28.

"We made the trip to give our guys one last shot at qualifying for the conference championship, and to hopefully improve a few of our season best marks in the mid-distance events," head coach of men's and women's cross country/ director of cross country and track Brian Beil said. "We were able to do that in the case of Brandon (Knieja) in the 800m and got to see a few PRs and season openers for guys who have been hurt.  Now we'll turn all of our attention to the PBC conference meet this week."

Brandon Knieja followed in 11th place, with a time of 1:55.61. Will Stone (1:57.68), Logan Burch (1:59.81) and Luke Scheid (2:04.34) crossed the finish line in 16th, 25th and 42nd place. Burch secured a personal best time with his performance. Chase McKee posted a time of 2:08.05 to take 54th, followed by Adrian Abercrombie in 55th place at 2:08.34. Jack Cleary (2:15.28) finished in 66th. Hunter Smith (2:07.33) and Vaughn Blanchet (2:16.99) made their collegiate debuts with a 50th and 68th place finish.

In the 1500m, Matt Lyons secured seventh place with a time of 4:02.71. Max Bowlin took 28th at 4:17.95.

Asad Bashir posted a time of 15:54.64 in the 5000m to lead the Saints pack. Gavin Ross followed in 15th at 16:17.50. Robert Stiff (16:23.15) and A'Jani Stokes (16:46.45) rounded out the Saints in 17th and 25th place.

Next, the Saints will travel to Daytona Beach for the Peach Belt Conference Championship at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on April 20-21.
