DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Flagler College men's track and field team finished with multiple podium appearances as they placed fourth overall at the Peach Belt Conference Championship this weekend, held at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Track Complex.
Flagler finished with a total of 99 points. Placing first was Embry-Riddle who tallied 238.5 points. Following the Eagles was Augusta University with 126.5 points and Clayton State University with 106.5. Friday began day one of the championship and saw Flagler compete in seven events. Starting off with gold in the first event was Finn Russell. Russell ran his 10,000 meter in 31:54.84 and was joing by Romain Biguet on the podium who placed third. Biguet set a personal record 32:30.06. Axel Dabe and Andy Munnik scored points for Flagler in the event as well. Dabe ran his first event of the spring and placed sixth in 33:10.48. Munnik placed seventh in 34:22.74.
In the preliminarily round of the 110 meter hurdles, Sam Adebonojo qualified for finals with his 15.49 finish. In the finals, Adebonojo placed seventh in 15.30. Collin Norton had his preliminaries in the 100 meter where he placed 13th, running 11 flat.
Led by Kaleb Hollins and Will Stone, the Saints took first and second in the 1500 meter. The champion, Hollins ran a 3:48.78 while Stone took silver with his 3:49.91. Munnik took fifth, running a 3:54.65. Closing out day one, Logan Burch and Ben Youngs took on the 3000 meter steeplechase. Burch ran a season best 9:50.58, landing him sixth. Youngs took eighth in 10:37.91
Opening Saturday's competition, Russell swept all his events as he placed first in the 5,000 meter. To total 20 points for the Saints, Russell ran a 14:23.67. This time was just under 16 seconds faster than second place. In his first race of the meet, Jack Waters took home a personal best, fifth place, 14:50.57. Going back to back on personal records, Biguet landed a 14:58.39, seventh place finish. Miquel Fons placed eighth in 15:09.90.
Hollins claimed his second gold medal after competing in the 800 meter. Running a 1:49.96, Hollins was trailed by Luke Larkin who took second in 1:51.25. Earning him fourth, Stone ran a season best 1:52.09.
In relays, the team of Sam Hummer, Ian McGrorty, Amonyay Pritchard and Norton competed in the 4x100 meter. The team placed sixth in 43.09. In the 4x400, McGrorty, Hollins, Larkin and Zach Brainerd took fourth in 3:19.95.
Representing the field events was Tyson Moraska. Moraska had a career performance as he threw 46.60 meters. This landed him in seventh place, earning two points for the Saints.
