DAHLONEGA, Ga. – No. 11 (ABCA Division II Top 30) University of North Georgia used a four-run sixth inning to rally past Flagler College 10-7 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.
North Georgia upped its record to 24-7 overall and 15-2 in conference play. Flagler dropped to 18-10 overall and 7-7 in the Peach Belt. The same two teams meet in the "rubber game" tomorrow at 12 p.m.
Flagler led 5-1 after three innings and 5-3 after five complete. JD Coleman led off the sixth for UNG with a single and Hunter Thompson hit a double to left field to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Ben Hamacher followed with a double to right field to tie the game. Hamacher later scored the go-ahead run when Brody Yeomans hit a single to center. Cam Hodge would knock in Yeomans to give North Georgia a 7-5 lead.
Flagler got a run back in the eighth, but allowed three more UNG runs to score in the home half. The Saints got a run in the ninth.
Kevin Cox (5-1) surrendered five runs on nine hits in seven innings of work, but that was good enough for the win. Chandler Theil worked the last two innings and allowed one earned run on three hits to pick up the save.
Hamacher finished 5-for-6 with a double, four runs batted in, and he scored a run to pace the Nighthawk offense. Coleman collected three singles, scored two runs, and drove in another. Hodge hit a pair of singles and collected two RBI.
Garrett Wright (3-2) allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits in five-plus innings of work for Flagler.
Jackson Graden,
Jacob Newman, Dominic Patruno, and
Keegan Leckband all worked in relief.
George Gilson went 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI for the Saints.
Tripp Davis finished 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored, and he drove in a run.
AJ Hunerberg went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and three RBI while
Parker Stallard finished with a single, a double, and he scored two runs.
