DAHLONEGA, Ga. – No. 11 (ABCA Division II Top 30) University of North Georgia sent 13 men to the plate and scored seven runs on four hits and went on to defeat Flagler College 12-2 in seven innings in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.
North Georgia, the No. 1 seed, improved to 40-12 and advanced to the finals of the group. Flagler, the No. 4 seed, dropped to 34-17 and will face the winner of the first elimination game, which is going on now between Middle Georgia State University and Georgia Southwestern State University. The winner player Flagler in another elimination game at 7 p.m. tonight.
Caleb Farr hit a two-run double in that first inning, and Hunter Thompson hit a two-run single to help the Nighthawks jump out to a 7-0 lead.
Payton Palladino belted a solo home run in the second inning for Flagler's first run and hit.
North Georgia added three more in the bottom of the second and two more in fourth.
Andrew Duval (9-2) tossed a complete game and held Flagler to two runs on four hits. He struck out five.
Brody Yeomans collected three singles, scored a run, and finished with four runs batted in. Farr hit two doubles, scored two runs, and had three RBI. Thompson went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and he scored a run.
Brayden Matthews (5-5) surrendered seven runs on four hits in one-third of an inning for the Saints. Palladino went 2-for-3 with a double and the home run.
Eli Maddox collected two singles and scored a run.
