GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Senior
Abby Misch was named the Peach Belt Conference Track Athlete of the Year as the Flagler College women's track and field team placed second at the indoor championship yesterday.
Across eight events, Flagler brought home seven medals across nine different athletes. Finishing with 107 points, the Saints came in second only to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University who earned 234.5 points. In third was Augusta Universtiy with 93, followed by Clayton State University with 71, Lander University with 58.5 and University of South Carolina at Beaufort with 48.
Misch earned the most points by an individual track athlete, earning her the Outstanding Track Athlete of the Year Award. Freshman Sophia Paul was named to the PBC All-Sportsmanship Team.
Crowned as a champion in both races, Misch set an NCAA provisional in her 2:10.69, 800 meter finish. In the mile, Misch ran a new personal best and now the 37th fastest time in NCAA Division II, 4:53.74. Joining MIsch on the podium in the mile was
Zoie Marchant who ran a 4:55.33, earning her second.
The 3000 meter run was led by
Kinga Borowska and
Hope Siner. In a photo finish, Borowska narrowly missed out on first place by .01 of a second. Borowska placed second with a 10:58.15 finish. Siner followed soon after, earning herself third with a 10:59.38 finish.
The last silver medal to be won came from the Distance Medley Relay team of Belicia O'Grady, Hanna Warren,
Megan Vreeland and Sophia Poling who ran a 12:39.32. In sprints,
Zoe Zinnie and Paul both advanced to the finals. Battling it out for third and fourth, Zinnie earned bronze in 9.30 while Paul placed fourth in 9.36.
