Saints place third at the PBC Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Flagler College women's track and field team finished with multiple podium appearances as they placed third overall at the Peach Belt Conference Championship this weekend, held at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Track Complex.

Flagler finished with a total of 100 points which also tied Clayton State University. Sitting ahead of them was Embry-Riddle who tallied 289 points. Following the Eagles was Augusta University with 107 points. Friday began day one of the championship and saw Flagler compete in eight events. Saturday saw Flagler compete in five.

In the opening race, three Saints in Chloe Smith, Mallory Robinson and Sophia May scored points in the 10,000 meter. Setting a new personal best and placing fourth overall, Smith ran a 38:39.67. Robinson placed sixth in 40:06.16, followed by May in seventh with 40:11.32.

In the preliminaries of the 100 meter hurdles, Zoe Zinnie placed fifth in 14.95 to advance to the finals. On Saturday, Zinnie earned five points by placing fourth overall in 15.11. Sophia Paul also had her preliminaries in the 400 meter hurdles where she went on to qualify for finals on Saturday. Paul placed fifth with her new personal best 1:05.74. In the finals, Paul placed seventh in 1:08.54. Megan Vreeland competed in the preliminaries of the 400 meter, setting a new personal best 59.12.

The first champion of the meet came from senior standout Abby Misch. Misch, Zoie Marchant, Clemence Treguer and Sophia Poling all placed in the top four of the 1500 meter. Setting a new personal best, Misch ran a 4:37.53. Marchant placed second in 4:40.00, followed by Treguer in third with 4:40.39. Poling notched a new personal best in 4:41.08. Hope Sinner found silver in the 3000 meter steeplechase. A personal best 11:15.40, Sinner had a photo finish, missing first by .11 of a second. May paced fourth in her new best 11:43.74.

Saturday opened with silver and bronze in the in 5000 meter. A season best for Smith, the senior ran a 17:41.92 to place second. Poling added a third place finish to her day with a personal best 17:45.71. Treguer was the last to crack the top five, placing fifth in a personal best 17:53.94. The Saints went on to fill the four of the remaining five spots in the top ten. Hanna Warren and Robinson were the last two to earn points for the team. Warren placed seventh in 18:25.04 while Robinson placed eighth in 18:31.44.

Rounding out the meet was Marchant who earned the final medal for the Saints. Competing in the 800, Marchant placed third in 2:11.59. Misch closed out the top five as she placed fifth with her 2:17.66 finish. In the final race of the meet, the team of Vreeland, Lyla Berman, Paul and Marchant placed sixth after running a 4:07.93.

In field events, Sara Miller competed in the javelin while Berman competed in the high jump. Placing a new personal best, Miller picked up fifth place after throwing 35.59 meters. Berman jumped for 1.50 meters which landed her seventh. Berman was one of four competitors to stop at this height.
