STATESBORO, Ga. - The Flagler College women's track and field team finished up the Georgia Showdown, hosted by Georgia Southern University at Bo Pitts Field, placing third overall as a team this afternoon.
Flagler scored 95 points to overcome all non-Division I schools. The host team, Georgia Southern, placed first with 200 points. To cap off the regular season, Flagler will travel to the App State Open, hosted by Appalachian State University, April 18-19.
Starting the day off with a statement was Flagler's lone field event participant, Mya Peterson. She placed first in the javelin throw, with a distance of 29.01 meters, separating herself from second place by 1.5 meters. In the discus throw, Peterson placed fourth, throwing for 24.21 meters.
From the sprinters side, the 4x100 meter relay squad of
Madison Miller,
Sara Miller,
Megan Vreeland and
Zoe Zinnie placed third in 51.49 seconds. In the 4x400 meter relay, the Saints also placed third as well.
Tessa Thompson,
Anna Plum,
Aaliyah Jordan and
Sara Miller finished in 4:28.63. Zinnie continued to find the podium, placing second in 100 meter hurdles. Crossing the line in 15.44, Zinnie set a new school and personal record. The 400 meter hurdles had Jordan place second overall, in a time of 1:08.35.
The mid-distance and distance events also found success. Leading the Saints charge in the 5000 meter run was
Francesca Pece who placed third in 19:24.66.
Zoie Marchant picked up a second place finish in the 800 meter run after a 2:15.03 finish. Franzi Martens finished just outside podium range, placing fourth in the 800 in a time of 2:20.33. In the 3000 meter steeplechase,
Hope Siner placed first, crossing the line in 11:45.36.
