ST. AUGUSTINE – The No. 8 (ITA Division II Collegiate Tennis Rankings) Flagler College women's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory over No. 11 Georgia College & State University in a Peach Belt Conference match at the Flagler Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
Flagler has won eight matches in a row and improved to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in the Peach Belt. Georgia College had its eight-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 12-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Saints took the early lead on the Bobcats after winning two-of-the-three doubles matches. The No. 18-ranked doubles team of
Dana Heimen and
Luisa Hrda won their match 6-3 and
Florencia Massardo Brain and
Nadja Meier clinched the first point with a 6-4 victory.
Hrda and Heimen won their singles matches to give Flagler a 3-0 lead in the match and then
Laura Jipescu clinched the match with a 6-2,2-6, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles. Meier, ranked No. 6 in the country, won her 17
th consecutive singles match.
Charlotta Buss won at No. 6.
Flagler takes on another Peach Belt Conference foe tomorrow (March 25) as it will face No. 49 Columbus State University at 10 a.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
