ST. AUGUSTINE – The No. 8 (ITA Division II Collegiate Tennis Rankings) Flagler College women's tennis team squeezed out a 4-3 win over No. 49 Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference match at the Flagler Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
Flagler extends with winning streak to nine matches and improved to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Columbus State fell to 5-3 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Saints led 3-2 when No. 44
Dana Heimen defeated Luciana Galves 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to clinch the match.
Flagler took the early lead on Columbus State after winning two-of-the-three doubles matches. After the Lady Cougars won the first doubles match,
Eryka Kruk and
Laura Jipescu escaped with a 7-5 win and the nation's No. 18-ranked tandem of
Luisa Hrda and Heimen shut out their opponent.
Sixth-ranked
Nadja Meier won her 18
th consecutive match with a straight-sets win over Inma Ramon to give Flagler a 2-0 lead.
Charlotta Buss won her ninth match in a row to push the Saints advantage to 3-1.
Flagler heads north next weekend to face the University of North Georgia (April 1) and Young Harris College (April 2).
