Nesi leads Saints at River City Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Joel Nesi breaks the 5000m school record to open the Saints outdoor track and field season at the River City Classic on March 16-17 at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.

Nesi finished in sixth place with a time of 14:32.82.

"This was a great opener for our outdoor campaign," head coach of men's and women's cross country/ director of cross country and track Brian Beil said. "UNF always puts on a first class meet and this year was no exception.  Our men and women almost all ran personal bests over the two-day meet, and we saw two school records go down in the 5k's.  There's still work to be done before championship season, but we're in a great place and spirits are high."

In the 5000m, Jon Eide crossed the finish line at 15:57.63 for 11th place. Francisco Ramirez secured 13th at 15:07.62, followed by Christian Fernandez in 14th with a time of 15:08.09. Will Stone took 15th place at 15:10.70, while Ethan Tank finished in 20th place at 15:20.58.

Logan Seifert (15:26.95), Brandon Knieja (15:31.84) and Gavin Ross (15:50.34) were the next three Saints to come in at 21st, 23rd and 25th place. Dieumerci Ufitimana finished in 26th place at 15:51.08, while Michael Hayeck took 31st at 16:22.83. A'Jani Stokes rounded out the Saints in 34th place 16:30.18.

Matt Lyon crossed the finish line at 4:00.60 to take 14th place in the 1500m run. Max Bowlin finished in 20th place 4:17.24.
 
In the 800m, Lyons finished in 16th place with a time of 1:58.80, followed by Max Chase McKee in 18th at 2:00.4. Logan Burch finished in 19th place with a time of 2:00.70. Adrian Abercrombie (2:07.64) and Luke Scheid (2:11.29) secured 26th and 27th. Jack Cleary finished at 2:16.01 to take 29th.
 
In the 400m, Luke Larkin came in at 51.57 for 18th place. Tyrel Emig finished in 25th with a time of 53.57.

Nesi, Eide, Knieja, Stone, Ramirez, Tank, Fernandez, Seifert, Burch, Hayeck, Ufitimana, Abercrombie and Cleary earned new personal best times at the meet.

Next, the Saints will travel to Orlando, Florida for the Knights Invitational on March 24-25.
