Saints take on RADD Sports invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla.- The Flagler College men's track & field team competed at the RADD Sports Invitational at the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe on Jan. 20.

"I'm pleased with the way we competed in our heats," head coach of men's and women's cross country/ director of cross country and track Brian Beil said. "This early in the season, I'm really just looking for our runners to compete well and not worry too much about times. As we continue to work through this training cycle, our times will get there. Having that said, we had some very good performances for this early." 
 
The Saints had entries in the mile, 800m, 5000m, and the 4x400m relay.
 
Brandon Knieja finished in eighth place in the mile with a time of 4:17.85, followed by Francisco Ramirez in 12th with a time of 4:25.28. Max Bowlin took 16th with a time of 4:31.57.
 
Joel Nesi claimed ninth place in the 800m at 1:58.02. Matt Lyons (1:59.71) and Chase McKee (1:59.86) were the next two Saints to cross the finish line in 15th and 16th place. Logan Burch secured 22nd at 2:01.47, while Chris Canales placed 27th with a time of 2:03.63. Adrian Abercrombie rounded out the Saints in 39th place with a time of 2:10.57.
 
The 5000m race had showings of five Flagler men. Christian Fernandez (15:44.09) took seventh, followed by Gavin Ross (15:47.05) in eighth. A'Jani Stokes (15:57.98), Asad Bashir (16:07.88) and Dieumerci Ufitimana (16:20.01) took 11th, 14th and 16th place.
 
Nesi, Ramirez, Knieja and Lyons ran the 4x400m relay, earning a combined time of 3:35.05 to take fifth place. Bowlin, Mckee, Burch and Canales finished in eighth with a combined time of 3:38.19.
 
The Saints will return to the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe on Jan.26-27 for the Alachua County Invitational.
