Men's track and field competes at UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Flagler College men's track and field team competed in its second race of the outdoor season Saturday, running in the Black & Gold Invitational, hosted by the University of Central Florida.

Flagler shared the track with many NCAA Division I programs including, University of Kentucky, Rutgers University, University of North Florida, University of Connecticut and many other programs from all across the nation.

Nine runners competed in two events, the 1500m and the 800m.

In the 1500m, Flagler placed three in the top-20. Leading the way for head coach Brian Beil was Joel Nesi, who came in 16th and posted a time of 3:59.93. Francisco Ramirez finished right behind him, in 17th, with at time of 4:01.02. The third Saint to crack the top-20 was Matt Lyons, who came in 20th with a final mark of 4:03.61.

Christian Fernandez and Jon Eide both broke into the top-25, finishing 24th and 25th respectively with times of 4:07.95 and 4:08.66. Chris McGuffin was the final Saint to run the 1500m, finishing with a time of 4:21.62.

In the 800m, Alex Bagby paced Flagler, finishing with a time of 2:00.91. Tyrel Emig posted a 2:09.19 while Anthony Whelan finished with a 2:09.89.

The Saints continue their outdoor season next week when they return to Orlando for the Knights Invite, once against hosted by UCF, March 25-26.
