ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College took game two from Georgia Southwestern State University, 6-1, in a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader game Friday evening at Flagler Field on "Senior Night." The Lady Hurricanes took the opening game, 1-0.
Before the game, Flagler honored its two seniors:
Kiley McQuillan and
Jordan Sheets
Georgia Southwestern dropped to 19-32 overall and 6-20 in the Peach Belt. Flagler improved to 13-35 overall and 9-17 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow in the final game of the series starting at 11 a.m. to conclude the regular season.
In game two, the Saints got on the board in the first inning as
Emily Ricci scored on a McQuillan ground out. They added a run in the third and fourth.
Ryleigh Hall busted the fifth inning open with a two-run double to center to score
Stephanie Daly and
Hannah Smith. In the sixth, Flagler scored one more run.
Riley Rowe (7-14) allowed only one run on three hits for the win. She produced seven fly outs and 10 ground outs with three strikeouts. Rowe retired 9-of-the-first-10 batters she faced.
Smith went 2-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored. Hall went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Meadows had a single with a run scored and one RBI.
The Lady Hurricanes scored their lone run in the fourth inning.
Jacquelyn Burns (3-4) gave up three runs on six hits from the loss in 3.2 innings. Pyper McCard came into for relief and gave up three runs, with only one being earned.
Maggie McDonald had a single and one RBI. Madison Banks had two singles.
In game one, McCard and the Lady Hurricanes defense shut down the Saints, with Georgia Southwestern only scoring one run in the third inning on an infield single by Lani Dansby.
McCard (7-10) threw a five-hit shoutout to win the game. She produced seven flyouts, 11 groundouts and two strikeouts.
Kendall Huelsman had a single with one run scored. Dansby went 1-for-3 with a run batted in. Erin Garland had two singles.
Sheets (3-11) allowed one run on five hits. She had two flyouts and 15 groundouts with three strikeouts.
Smith had two singles. Ricci, Daly, and Meadows all had one single.
