DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Flagler College scored four runs in the first inning but lost to No. 5 (NFCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia 6-5 in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Friday afternoon at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium
Flagler finished the season 14-36 overall North Georgia improved to 43-8 and advanced to the semifinal round where it will face the winner of the Lander University-USC Aiken game tomorrow.
The Saints got ahead in the first inning with a single to right by
Stephanie Daly to score
Olivia Burns. They went on to score three more runs. In the fifth,
Chloe Montalvo tied the game at 5-all with a sacrifice fly to score
Hannah Smith.
The Nighthawks scored one in the first, two in the second, two in the third and took the lead in the fifth. Kayla Berry hit a one-out double in the fifth and scored on Journey Roberts' single up the middle, just beating the throw to the plate.
Ava Matthews (3-9) took the loss in relief and allowed three runs with two of them being earned off five hits. She produced 11 fly outs and three ground outs in five innings.
Riley Rowe started the game.
Caroline Conner (10-1) grabbed the win as a relief in 4.1 innings. She produced four strikeouts, seven fly outs and six ground outs. Chloe Poss came in after to pitch two scoreless innings and grabbed her third save.
Daly finished with two singles, scored a run, and had one run batted in.
Annake Meadows had two singles with one RBI. Smith had a single and scored two runs.
Kayla Berry went 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple, and scored three times. Ava Lunsford had two singles and batted in two. Roberts finished with a triple, scored a run, and drove in two more.
