Flagler women move up to No. 15 in the nation and No. 3 in the region

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Flagler College women's tennis team moved up two spots to No. 17 according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II Coaches Poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon. More importantly, the Saints are ranked No. 3 in the last of three NCAA Division II region rankings. The selection show for the national tournament will be Monday at 8 p.m. on ncaa.com.

Flagler is currently 16-10 overall and finished the Peach Belt Conference slate with a 6-1 record. The Saints advanced to the PBC Tournament final last weekend.

In the region ranking, which helps set the tournament field, Catawba College, the South Atlantic Conference champion, leads the Southeast Region with a 20-1 overall record and an 18-1 mark against in-region opponents. Columbus State University (17-4, 16-4), the PBC champion, follows at No. 2. The University of North Georgia (16-7, 13-7) stayed behind Flagler at No. 4. Lenoir-Rhyne University (15-3, 15-3) is No. 5. Wingate University (14-6, 14-6) and Newberry College (15-5, 15-5) follow at No. 6 and 7. Young Harris College (17-6, 17-6) is No. 8. Anderson University (10-7, 10-7) and Erskine College (16-8, 16-8) round out the top 10. Erskine won the Conference Carolinas Tournament.

The Saints have a .616 in-division strength of schedule, which is the toughest in the region. The in-region strength of schedule is .593, which ranked second in the region.

There are four PBC teams, including Flagler, that are ranked in the ITA top 50. Columbus State University moved up one to No. 8 while the University of North Georgia slipped three spots to No. 16. Middle Georgia State University moved up two to No. 35.   

Elena Ondobo checks in at No. 12 in the singles rankings. She holds a 32-6 record this season and is 19-4 in the spring. Eryka Kruk is ranked No. 18. She is 28-10 this year and is 16-7 in the spring.

Barry University remains at the top the national ranking. The University of West Florida moved up one spot to No. 2. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University dropped to No. 3. Nova Southeastern University jumped up to No. 4 while the University of West Alabama slipped to No. 5.
