AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Tripp Davis' run-scoring single in the seventh inning gave Flagler College the lead, and then he scored the insurance run later in the inning in a 7-5 victory over Augusta University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Jaguars Field.
Flagler improved to 33-15 overall and 20-10 in the Peach Belt. The 33 wins are the most in the NCAA D2 era, and the 20 PBC wins are a program record. Augusta dropped to 18-29 overall and 12-18 in conference play. Up next for Flagler is a non-conference game on Tuesday at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 5 p.m. to conclude the regular season.
George Gilson hit a home run to lead off the seventh and tie the game at 5-all.
Eli Maddox followed with a single and three batters later he scored on Davis' single to give the Saints the lead.
Holden Bradshaw belted a double to left field to score Davis from second with the insurance run.
Logan Brown (4-2) tossed three scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. He scattered three hits and fanned two.
Jackson Graden earned his second save after working a scoreless ninth inning where he allowed a hit and struck out two.
Davis finished the game 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and one run batted in. Gilson went 2-for-5 with the home run, and he scored two runs.
AJ Hunerberg and
Cael Reish each collected a pair of singles.
Caleb Jatko (5-4) allowed seven runs (five earned) on 12 hits over 6.2 innings to get the loss.
Landon Leonard had another big day as he went 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI. He batted .833 over the weekend, going 10-for-12 with three doubles and a triple.
