AUGUSTA, Ga. –
Payton Palladino hit a three-run home run and a two-run double as Flagler College routed Augusta University 11-1 in eight innings in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday evening at Jaguars Field.
Flagler improved to 32-15 overall and 19-10 in the Peach Belt. The 32 wins matches the most by the team since 2015 and the 19 league wins are the most since 2019, which is the program's record. Augusta dropped to 18-28 overall and 12-17 in conference play. The final PBC game of the season will be played between the two teams tomorrow at 1 p.m.
After spotting the Jaguars an early lead, the Saints put up a six-spot in the third inning.
George Gilson hit a two-run single to put Flagler ahead, and
Eli Maddox followed with an RBI-single to center to give the Saints a 3-1 lead. Palladino kept the hit parade going with a three-run home run down the left field line.
Flagler added an unearned run in the fourth, and two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Brayden Matthews (5-4) went the distance as he scattered six hits and allowed one run with a season-high nine strikeouts. Matthews allowed only three base runners to reach scoring position after the first inning.
Palladino finished 2-for-5 with five runs batted in, and he scored two runs. Gilson and Maddox each collected two singles and drove in two runs.
Taylor Shultz added a pair of singles, scored a run, and drove in another.
Ty Cobb (3-6) allowed four runs on four hits in two-plus innings of work and got the loss.
Landon Leonard went 2-for-3 with a double.
