AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College scored three runs in the last two innings, all on wild pitches, to defeat Augusta University 8-7 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Jaguars Field.
Flagler improved to 31-15 overall and 18-10 in the Peach Belt. Augusta dropped to 18-27 overall and 12-16 in conference play. The Jaguars have lost 8-of-their-last-10 games. The two teams meet tomorrow at 3 p.m.
Harris Bachelder belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Augusta a 7-5 lead. Flagler got the leadoff hitters on in the eighth on a base hit and a hit by pitch. A bunt advanced them to scoring position. Patrick Matsunga (2-2) came on to pitch with two outs and the runners still at second and third. He threw a wild pitch to allow the first run to score in the inning, and then just a short time later, uncorked another wild pitch to let the Saints tie the game.
In the ninth,
Eli Maddox set the table with a double to left-center. Pinch runner
Parker Stallard advanced to third on a bunt. Then Stallard scored on a wild pitch to give Flagler an 8-7 lead.
Augusta was retired in order in the ninth.
Jackson Graden (3-2) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings in relief to get the win. He did not allow a hit and struck out three batters.
George Gilson went 3-forf-5 with a triple, a run scored, and he had one run batted in.
AJ Hunerberg collected three singles and scored two runs. Maddox went 2-for-5 with a double, and he scored a run.
Matsunga allowed one run on two hits in 1.1 innings and took the loss.
Landon Leonard went 4-for-5 with a double and a triple; two runs scored, and he knocked in a run. Bachelder finished the night with five RBI.
