AUGUSTA, Ga. – Flagler College's
George Gilson was selected as the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Week for the period ending April 19, according to a release by conference officials this afternoon.
This is the second weekly honor the Gilson has received from the conference office. He was selected on Feb. 16 and then took home NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week honors.
The Jacksonville, Florida native led the Saints with a .714 batting average in all four games last week, and had a 1.714 slugging percentage to go along with a .750 on-base percentage. He had 10 hits, including four doubles, two triples, and two home runs. Gilson drove in 11 runs and scored a team-high 12 runs. He had a pair of doubles and a run scored in a 9-1 loss to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Gilson followed that by going 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored, and a pair of runs batted in in a 12-2 win over Claflin. Saturday's game saw him go 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, four runs scored, and five RBI in a 16-6 win. He was intentionally walked three times including once with the bases loaded. In Sunday's 23-3 romp, Gilson became the fifth Flagler player to hit for the cycle, and his was a natural cycle (single, double, triple, and a home run in consecutive at bats). He went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI.
