ST. AUGUSTINE –
Eli Maddox collected three singles, scored a run, and finished with four runs batted in to lead Flagler College to a 12-2 win over Claflin University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 28-14 overall and 15-10 in the Peach Belt. Claflin dropped to 4-31 overall and 1-24 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m. on "Senior Day." Flagler will honor its 12 seniors in a ceremony starting at 1:20 p.m.
A pair of walks and an RBI single by
George Gilson knotted the game at 1-all in the bottom of the first. Maddox followed with an RBI single, and another run came in on a throwing error to first base. The fifth and final run of the frame came on a bases loaded catcher's interference.
Flagler added single tallies in the second and third innings. Maddox added a two-run single in the fifth inning, and
Holden Bradshaw had a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth.
CJ Hanson (7-2) scattered five hits and allowed two runs over six innings to pocket the win. He fanned six.
Gilson went 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored, and two more driven in.
Matt Anthony went 2-for-4 with a double, and he scored a run.
Wylan Sheffield (1-10) surrendered 11 runs (five earned) on eight hits in five-plus innings. He walked five batters.
Devon Whitehead hit a leadoff double in the fourth inning and scored on Christian Hill's single.
