AMERICUS, Ga. –
AJ Hunerberg paced Flagler College's 14-hit attack with four singles, three runs scored, and two runs batted in in a 12-8 victory over Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Hurricane Stadium.
Flagler improved to 27-13 overall and 14-10 in the Peach Belt. Flagler won two-of-the-three games in the series and won its first series at Americus since 2021. Georgia Southwestern fell to 20-22 overall and 12-12 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
With the score tied at 8-all in the top of the seventh, the Saints got the first two base runners on.
Patrick Mazzamaro's bunt attempt was fielded by relief pitcher Rem Maxwell (0-1). He tried to get the force out at third base, but the throw was high and allowed
Tripp Davis to score the go-ahead run. Hunerberg added an RBI single to increase the Flagler lead to 10-8. Two batters later,
George Gilson hit a two-run single to give the Saints a 12-8 lead.
Drew Rosenberg (3-0) shut down the Hurricanes over 3.2 innings and helped preserve the lead. He allowed two singles and struck out three. Rosenberg was the fifth of six pitchers to see action.
Gilson finished 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs, and three runs batted in.
Eli Maddox went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI, and he scored a run. Davis collected a pair of singles and scored three runs.
Maxwell allowed five runs (only one earned), on two hits in 2.1 innings pitched.
Drew Reaves collected three singles and scored a run while Devon Murphy hit a three-run home run.
