Saints drop two against Bearcats

GREENWOOD, S.C.— Flagler College got swept in Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Lander University Saturday afternoon at Doug Spears Field. They lost the opener 7-2 and then lost the second game 6-1.

Flagler is now 10-26 overall and 6-11 in the Peach Belt. Lander is 25-13 overall and 11-6 in conference play. The Saints will conclude the series against the Bearcats tomorrow at 12 p.m.

In game one, the Saints fell behind 5-0 in the third inning. They pushed a run across in the fourth from a home run by Kiley McQuillan. Then in the fifth, Emily Ricci singled to right to score Annake Meadows on a throwing error by right field.
 
In the fifth and sixth innings, the Bearcats scored two more runs to expand their lead, 7-2.

Oliva Burns went 2-for-3 with two singles. Meadows went 2-for-3 with a run scored. McQuillan was 1-for-3 with a solo home run.
 
Riley Rowe (5-13) got the loss for the Saints. She allowed four runs on four hits in one-third of an inning. Alyssa Hunter pitched the reminder of the game. She allowed two of the three runs. Struck out six batters, produced seven flyouts and three ground outs.

Mattye Geddings (11-2) got the win. Allowed one of the two runs, 18 flyouts, and three groundouts.

Bella Angeli went 3-for-3 with a home run, scored twice and batted in three. Reagan Hill went 3-for-4 with one run batted in and scored twice.
 
In game two, the Saints got ahead in the first with an unearned run on a sacrifice fly by McQuillan to score Burns.

The Bearcats offense scored one run in the first, second, fourth, and fifth innings, and two more in the sixth.
 
Paige Sherman (7-5) threw a one-run game for the Bearcats. She had three flyouts and 14 ground outs.

Angeli went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, she scored once and knocked in a run. Emorie Anderson and Samantha Bumgarner went 2-for-4 with one run batted in and scored once.

Jordan Sheets (2-8) got the loss for the Saints. She allowed six runs, five of which were earned, on 15 hits. She had four strikeouts and produced six flyouts and seven ground outs.
 
Ryleigh Hall, Raquelle Justice, Ricci and Burns all went 1-for-3.
