GREENWOOD, S.C.– Mattye Geddings (12-2) tossed a complete four-hit shutout to lead Lander University to a 3-0 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Sunday afternoon at Doug Spears Field.
Flagler fell to 10-27 overall and 6-12 in the Peach Belt. Lander is now 26-13 overall and 12-6 in conference play. The Saints will face Barry University in a doubleheader Tuesday starting at 3 p.m. at Flagler Field.
The Saints and the Bearcats were scoreless until the fourth inning. Lander scored an unearned run from a throwing error and another unearned run from a sacrifice fly to center to give them a 2-0 lead.
In the sixth, the Bearcats added one more run from a bases loaded hit by pitch.
Geddings had one strikeout and produced 13 fly outs and six ground outs. She retired 17 of 18 batters during the game.
Kara Vonachen went finished with three singles. Regan Hill went 2-for-3 with a double. Bella Angeli went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Ava Matthews (3-6) allowed three runs, but only one was earned. She gave up eight hits, struck out two batters, and had 10 fly outs and five ground outs.
Emily Ricci,
Kiley McQuillan, Stephaine Daly, and
Raquelle Justice all went 1-for-3. Justice hit a double.
