ST. AUGUSTINE –
Logan Brown (2-0) retired 17 batters in a row after coming in relief and getting the last out of the first inning in Flagler College's 8-1 triumph over the University of South Carolina Beaufort in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field. The game was shortened to 7.5 innings due to a lightning delay.
Flagler improved to 15-6 overall and 5-4 in the Peach Belt. The Saints swept the series against the Sand Sharks. USC Beaufort lost its seventh game in a row and fell to 4-16 overall and 0-12 in league play. Flagler hosts Florida Southern College this Tuesday at 6 p.m.
After spotting USCB a run in the top of the first, Flagler answered thanks to a run-scoring single by
George Gilson in the home half of the inning.
A sacrifice fly scored the go-ahead run in the fourth, then a three-run uprising by the Saints in the fifth put the game away.
Eli Maddox hit an RBI single, and
Payton Palladino drove him in on a double.
Brown didn't allow a run or a hit in 6.1 innings pitched, He walked one and fanned two. Brown induced 12 ground outs and four more fly outs.
Gilson went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and one run batted in. Maddox collected two singles, scored a run, and he drove in another.
Zack McQuiston (0-2) allowed five runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings to get the loss for USC Beaufort.
Cooper McDaniel hit a single in the first ad scored the team's lone run. Tyler Gundelfinger had the other base hit for the Sand Sharks. That came in the top of the eighth inning.
