ST. AUGUSTINE –
CJ Hanson (3-2) struck out 11 and
Jesse Sullivan tied his career high with four hits with three runs batted in as Flagler College defeated the University of South Carolina Beaufort 9-1 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 13-6 overall and 3-4 in the Peach Belt. USC Beaufort lost is fifth game in a row and dropped to 4-14 overall and 0-10 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m.
The Saints broke open a 1-all tie in the third inning.
George Gilson led off by getting hit by a pitch, stealing second, and then going to third on a ground out. Sullivan hit his second run-scoring single of the game to give Flagler the lead for good, 2-1. Sullivan would score on
Parker Stallard's double to right-center. The Saints scored another run on a wild pitch and one more on an error.
Hanson cruised through seven innings as he scattered two hits and allowed an unearned run. He retired 12 of the last 14 batters he faced and struck out six batters in a row in that span. Dew Rosenberg pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Stallard hit a double, a triple, scored two runs, and drove in another.
Eli Maddox and
Payton Palladino each collected two singles. Gilson scored three runs.
Joe Turner (1-2) allowed six earned runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings to get the loss for the Sand Sharks.
Noah Campbell, Cooper McDaniel, Kris Levensteins, and TJ McCluney each finished with a single.
