DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Back-to-back RBI singles by
Parker Stallard and
George Gilson in the top of the ninth inning was enough to give Flagler College a 6-4 win over No. 11 (ABCA Division II Top 30) University of North Georgia in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday evening at Bob Stein Stadium.
Flagler improved to 18-9 overall and 7-6 in the Peach Belt. The last time the Saints defeated a team ranked this high or better was March 15, 2022, when they beat No. 6 Rollins College, 16-9. North Georgia dropped to 23-7 overall and 14-2 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Flagler scored four runs in the third to take an early lead, but North Georgia scored three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to tie the game.
With one out in the top of the ninth,
Holden Bradshaw hit a single and took third when
Taylor Shultz followed with a single to right-center. Shultz stole second and then Stallard's single to left scored Bradshaw with the go-ahead run. Shultz advanced to third. After a pitching change, Gilson greeted the reliever with a single to left field that scored Shultz.
The Nighthawks got a lead off double in the bottom of the ninth, but the next three hitters were retired in order.
Logan Brown (3-1) earned the win in relief. He tossed three scoreless innings and scattered four hits.
Parker Adams retired the side in the ninth for his second save of the year.
Shultz paced the Saints offense going 3-for-5 with a double, and he scored two runs. Stallard finished with two singles, two runs batted in, and he scored a run.
Dylan Holbrook (0-2) took the loss in relief. He allowed one run on four hits in 5.1 innings pitched.
Cam Hodge and JD Coleman each hit two singles and scored a run for the Nighthawks.
