COCHRAN, Ga. –
Riley Rowe (5-7) tossed a five-hit shutout in the second game as Flagler College and Middle Georgia State University split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Knights Field. Middle Georgia won the opener 6-5 while Flagler took the second game 9-0 in six innings.
Flagler improved to 7-16 overall and 3-3 in the Peach Belt. The Saints won two of the three games in the series. Middle Georgia dropped to 6-12 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Flagler steps out of conference to take on Saint Leo University on Wednesday in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Saint Leo, Florida.
Rowe tossed her second shutout of the season as she struck out three batters and walked just one. She induced nine fly outs and six more ground outs. Rowe only let two base runners reach scoring position.
The Saints broke the game wide open with a five-run fourth inning. A bases loaded single by
Annake Meadows put Flagler on the board first, 1-0.
Raquelle Justice drew a walk to force the second run home. Run scoring singles by
Morgan Hicks and
Emily Ricci were sandwiched around a ground out that produced another run.
Meadows added a two-run single in the fifth and Flagler added two more in the sixth to invoke the run rule.
Hannah Smith led the 14-hit Saints attack with three consecutive singles and she scored two runs. Meadows finished with two singles and three runs batted in.
Kiley McQuillan went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and one RBI.
Stephanie Daly collected two singles and scored a run.
Anna Griggs (1-6) allowed five runs on seven hits in four innings of work.
Five different Knights hit a single.
In the opener, Middle Georgia scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. Kaylee Oliver's two-run single to left field ended the game.
Riley Haley (3-4) surrendered five runs and scattered five hits to earn the win.
Madison Cosgrove led the Knights going 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Jada Akeson went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and one RBI.
Jordan Sheets (0-6) took the loss in relief. She allowed one run on two hits.
Five different Saints got hits, but it was Meadows who hit a bases clearing triple in the sixth inning to give the Saints a 5-2 lead.
