Flagler drops two against No. 8 Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – No. 8 (NFCA Division II Top 25) Saint Leo University swept a non-conference softball doubleheader from Flagler College, 9-1 and 10-2, Wednesday afternoon at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium.

Saint Leo continues its 19-game win streak to improve to 24-2-1 overall. Flagler dropped to 7-18. The Saints will play in a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader this weekend against Augusta University starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 p.m.


In the first game, the Lions got on the board in the first inning by a two RBI single through the right side by Sydney Cline. They added one more run in the third and five in the fourth, and one in the sixth.

Flagler trailed 8-0 going into the top of the fifth inning. Annake Meadows ripped a double in right center and advanced to third by a single on the right field line by Raquelle Justice. Morgan Hicks laid down a sac bunt to the pitcher to score one run.

Tierney Hocquard (8-1) got the win for Saint Leo. She allowed one run on two hits, eight strikeouts, six flyouts and four ground outs.

Abigail Hynes went 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored, and one run batted in. Marissa Martinez collected a single and drove in two more. Tegan Larrimore finished 1-for-1 with a single and she scored two runs.

Riley Rowe (5-8) surrendered 10 hits with nine runs with only eight being earned. She had three strikeouts, three fly outs and nine ground outs.

Meadows went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Justice collected a single and Hicks drove in one run.
 
In game two, Alex Wright (5-0) tossed a two-hitter in four innings pitched and had five flyouts and four groundouts. Chloe Hocquard recorded an out in the fifth. Haleigh Thomas finished the game with 1.2 innings pitched with one hit.

The Lions got on the board in the first inning thanks to a walk, was able to advance two bases and was scored by a sacrifice fly to center to take a 0-1 lead. Saint Leo added four runs in the fourth. They added another run in the fifth. Then scored three more in the sixth to complete the run rule making it 10-2.

Przespolewski went 2-for-3 with two singles and one run. Hynes finished 1-for-1 with three runs driven in.

Ava Matthews (2-4) took the loss in the circle for the Saints. She allowed six earned runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Alyssa Hunter tossed the final 1.1 innings with four earned runs on four hits.

In the fifth, Justice hit a single and Haleigh Curry came in to pinch run and scored on a wild pitch. Chloe Montalvo walked, was able to advance to third and was scored by a single to left field by Hannah Smith.
