ST. AUGUSTINE – The University of South Carolina Aiken unleashed an offense that scored 31 runs on 36 hits two sweep a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader from Flagler College Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field. USCA won the opener 13-6 and took game two 18-7.
USC Aiken improved to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 12-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. to wrap up the series.
In the first game, USCA trailed 2-1 going into the top of the fifth inning. A lead off walk and a single set the table for the rally. A ground out tied the game then Donovan Glisson's single plated Chancellor Jennings with the go-ahead run.
Jennings added a two-run home run in the sixth to help give the Pacers a 6-2 lead.
The Saints got two runs back in the home half of the sixth.
George Gilson led off the frame with a solo home run and
Trenton Snyder added an RBI single.
Joseph Rauscher (3-0) got the win on the hill for USCA. He scattered six hits over six innings and allowed two earned runs. CJ Lincoln tossed the final three innings to pick up his first save.
Blake Martin paced the 19-hit attack going 4-for-6 with a pair of doubles, three runs batted in, and he scored a run. Jennings finished 3-for-4 with the home run, three RBI, and he scored two runs. Salvatore Laimo went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored, and one more driven in.
CJ Hanson (2-2) allowed 10 hits and four earned runs in 5.1 innings. He fanned four batters.
Drew Rosenberg,
Jacob Newman,
Theo Nagy,
Dominick Patruno, and
Jacob Sheckter all saw time on the mound in the game for the Saints.
Taylor Shultz collected three hits and scored a run.
Jesse Sullivan went 2-for-3 with a triple and he scored three runs.
In the second game, USCA scored five runs in the first, but Flagler put up six runs in the second. The Saints loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter. A Snyder single, another hit batter, and a two-run single by
Holden Bradshaw cut the deficit to one run (5-4). Shultz tied it with an RBI double and the
Parker Stallard's sacrifice fly gave the Saints a 6-5 lead.
The Pacers tied the game at 6-all in the top of the third after a triple by Jennings. A Yariel Diaz single scored Jennings with the go-ahead run.
USC Aiken would go on to score 11 runs over the next four innings.
Myles Chabi (3-1) picked up the win in relief. He scattered five hits over six innings, allowed one run, and struck out five.
Martin swung the hot bat again going 4-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. Johann Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and he knocked in four.
Jackson Graden (2-1) surrendered seven runs on nine hits in 2.1 innings pitched to get the loss.
Aaron Zenus started while
RJ Ensel and Justin Hawkins followed Graden.
Bradshaw finished with a pair of singles, one run scored, and two RBI. Snyder went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and one driven in.
