Gilson named NCBWA Southeast Region Player of the Week

SALISBURY, N.C. – Flagler College's George Gilson was selected as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Player of the Week for the period ending February 15, according to a release by this afternoon.

The last time the Flagler program had a regional player of the week was Nick Kranick in 2014. He went on to earn the national player of the week honor. Gilson was selected as the Peach Belt Conference's Player of the Week.

Gilson, a sophomore from Jacksonville, Florida, was red-hot this week as he led the Saints with a .579 batting average, going 11-for-19 at the plate to help Flagler to a 3-1 week. He hit three doubles, a triple, two home runs, scored eight runs, and had 12 runs batted in. Gilson's slugging percentage was at a robust 1.158 and his on-base percentage was .636. He went 3-for-7 with a double and a triple, four RBI, and he scored two runs in a 21-9 win at Florida Tech. Gilson went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBI, and he scored two runs in Friday night's 11-0 win at Columbus State. In a 12-7 win over Columbus State on Saturday, he went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, three RBI, and he scored twice. Gilson finished off the series going 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
