MELBOURNE, Fla. –
Tripp Davis led the way with five hits, including a double, and he scored four runs and drove in another as Flagler College routed Florida Tech 21-9 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Seminick-Hall Field.
Flagler won its sixth game in a row to improve to 6-1 overall. Florida Tech suffered its second consecutive loss and dropped to 5-2. The Saints open Peach Belt Conference play this weekend at Columbus State University with the three-game series starting on Friday.
The Saints gave up five runs in the bottom of the first to the Panthers, but was able to answer that in the top of the second with a five-spot of their own.
Flagler used a four-run third to pull away.
Patrick Mazzamaro hit a run-scoring triple and then scored on
Cael Reish's infield single to put Flagler up, 6-4. Later in the inning,
George Gilson hit a two-run double down the left field line.
The 21 runs scored tonight by Flagler were the most since the team plated 28 runs against Claflin University March 30, 2024. That also happened to be the last time the Saints had 27 hits in a game.
Flagler scored a run in every inning except for the first inning.
Jackson Graden (2-0) was credited with the win in relief. He scattered five hits and allowed one run with three strikeouts.
Brayden Matthews started and
Drew Rosenberg came on to pitch in the fifth inning.
Justin Haskins pitched a scoreless ninth.
Gilson finished 4-for-7 and was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. He drove in four runs and scored two more.
Jesse Sullivan collected four singles, had three runs batted in, and he scored a run. Mazzamaro hit a double, a triple, collected four RBI, and he scored three runs.
Taylor Shultz finished with three singles, scored four runs, and he knocked in three more.
Payton Palladino went 3-for-6 with two doubles, two RBI, and he scored three runs.
Christian Montes (0-1) took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in two innings of relief.
Jeff Davis led the Panthers as he went 3-for-5 with two doubles and he scored two runs. Adrian Dominguez went 3-for-4 with a double and he scored a run.
Tyler McClanahan was a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI, and he scored two runs.
