ST. AUGUSTINE –
Eli Roberts (3-1) tossed seven scoreless innings with a career-high nine strikeouts as Flagler College edged Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 1-0 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 26-12 overall while Embry-Riddle dropped to 19-15. Flagler heads to Dahlonega, Georgia to face the University of North Georgia in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series this weekend. The first game is Friday at 5 p.m. at Bob Stein Stadium.
Roberts only allowed three hits and retired 16 of the last 18 batters he faced.
Drew Rosenberg and
Ethan Bobo each tossed an inning in relief to preserve the shutout. Bobo fanned two batters and recorded his sixth save of the year.
The only run of the game came in the fifth inning.
Taylor Shultz led off the inning by reaching on an error by the shortstop. He took second on
Mason Gray's single to left field. After a strikeout, Shultz got picked off second base.
Eli Maddox hit a ground ball up the middle while Gray had taken off for second base. The Embry-Riddle second baseman kicked the ball on the left field side of second to allow Gray to get to third. A wild pitch scored Gray.
Embry-Riddle's only threat to score in the game was the second inning when it left the bases loaded.
Shultz, Gray, and Maddox all hit two singles for the Saints.
Gunner Harrison (4-3) took the loss on the mound for the Eagles. He tossed three innings in relief, allowed the unearned run, struck out six, and gave up three hits.
Robert Post led Embry-Riddle with four singles.
