ST. AUGUSTINE – Three Flagler College pitchers combined to strike out 10 batters and allow just four hits in a 7-1 win over Claflin University in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Before the game, Flagler unveiled a statue of former head coach Dave Barnett in honor of his many years of service to the College as both a coach and administrator. He was very instrumental in the Flagler Athletics Complex being built, especially Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 24-12 overall and 9-8 in the Peach Belt. Claflin dropped to 5-28-1 overall and 0-17 in conference play. The same two teams meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. to conclude the series.
The Saints scored single runs in the first three innings.
Carson Page got Flagler on the board with an RBI single to left field in the first.
Mason Gray hit a run-scoring single to center in the second.
That would be all of the offense
Cooper Smith (4-3) would need as he allowed one unearned run on four hits over six innings to get the win. He recorded a season-high seven strikeouts. Smith retired 18 of the first 21 batters he faced.
Ethan Bobo and
Keegan Leckband saw time in relief.
Gray finished 2-for-5 with a double, two runs batted in, and he scored a run.
Eli Maddox collected two singles and scored two runs. Page hit two singles, scored a run, and knocked in another.
Taylor Shultz went 2-for-4 with a triple and he scored two runs.
Xavier Campbell (0-5) allowed five runs (four earned) and scattered seven hits over seven innings of work for the Panthers.
