ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jaden Ross belted a three-run home run over the left field wall in the second inning to help Flagler College defeat Claflin University 8-2 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Sunday afternoon at Drysdale Field.
Flagler swept the series and improved to 25-12 overall and 10-8 in the Peach Belt. Claflin fell to 5-29-1 overall and 0-18 in conference play. The Saints take on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Drysdale Field.
The Saints scored an unearned run in the first and then back-to-back one out walks to
Jesse Sullivan and
Tripp Davis in the second helped set up Ross' blast to left field to give Flagler a 4-0 lead.
Flagler added three more in the fourth with two of those runs coming off a hustle double by
Taylor Shultz.
Daniel Fischer (3-2) allowed two unearned runs and four hits in six innings to get the win. He struck out six batters.
Drew Rosenberg,
Ethan Bobo, and
Jake Hill also saw time on the mound.
Ross finished the day 2-for-3 with the home run, three runs batted in, and he scored two runs for the Saints. Davis collected a pair of singles and scored three runs.
Mason Gray went 2-for-2 with a double and he scored a run.
Carson Page finished with two singles.
Elijah Bonner (2-5) surrendered eight runs (six earned) and allowed 11 hits in seven innings of work.
D.J. Mungenast went 2-for-3 with a double and he scored a run. Anthony Hardy collected two singles for the Panthers.
