ST. AUGUSTINE – An unearned run in the fifth inning was the only run scored in the game as USC Beaufort edged Flagler College 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game on a blustery Saturday afternoon on "Senior Day" at Drysdale Field.
Before the game, the Saints honored their 11 seniors:
Ethan Bobo,
Clay Callan,
Daniel Fischer,
Bryce Fitzgerald,
Mason Gray,
Jake Hill,
Caden Kresak,
Steven Reiss,
Cooper Smith,
Jace Thomas, and
Isaiah Wellman.
The Sand Sharks broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. Cooper McDaniel hit a triple to right center. Flagler centerfielder
Bryce Fitzgerald made a diving attempt at the ball. The ball was dislodged from his glove on impact and scooted away towards right field allowing McDaniel to reach third. After two USCB batters struck out, McDaniel scored on a passed ball.
Ian Barnes (2-5) tossed 7.2 scoreless innings and scattered six hits to get the win. He induced 13 fly outs and seven ground outs. PJ Luebbers pitched a scoreless ninth to record a save.
Daniel Fischer (3-3) only allowed two hits and the unearned run in the loss. He struck out six batters.
Jake Hill and
Ethan Bobo also pitched in relief for the Saints.
Caden Kresak collected two singles.
