ST. AUGUSTINE –
Caden Kresak went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and
Eli Roberts (4-1) only allowed one run on three hits in seven innings as Flagler College rolled to a 15-1 victory over Edward Waters University in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 29-16 while Edward Waters dropped to 28-17. The Saints wrap up the regular season this weekend at Augusta University. The three-game Peach Belt Conference series begins Friday at 6 p.m.
The Saints pushed across four runs in the bottom of the first inning, three of which were unearned.
Taylor Shultz led off the frame with a walk. After an infield popup, Shultz stole second base. Then, Kresak drew a walk.
Eli Maddox followed with a single through the right side of the infield, which would have loaded the bases. The Edward Waters second baseman's throw to second base to try and catch Kresak on second was wild, which allowed Shultz to score, and Kresak took third. A sacrifice fly scored Kresak. Later,
George Gilson's single to center drove in Maddox, and an errant throw by the center fielder allowed
Justin Haskins to score the fourth run.
Roberts cruised through six innings as he retired 17 of the first 21 batters he faced. He surrendered a solo home run in the top of the seventh. Roberts struck out four batters and retired 12 men on fly outs.
Drew Rosenberg,
Clay Callan, and
Isaiah Wellman all worked in relief.
Mason Gray collected a pair of singles, scored two runs, and drove in two more for the Saints. Gilson also had two singles, but he scored one run and knocked in another.
Bryce Fitzgerald drew two walks, had a base hit, and scored three runs. Shultz finished with a single, two walks, two RBI, and he scored two runs.
Elvin Polanco (1-1) pitched one inning and allowed four runs (one earned) on two hits with three walks.
Erickson Matos belted a solo home run in the seventh for the Tigers.
