INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College softball team is one of 10 teams listed in the first of three NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, which was released Wednesday afternoon.

The first poll is listed alphabetically, but the next two will be ranked Nos. 1-10.

Flagler (28-14 overall, 23-14 in-region record) is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the top 10. Lander University (20-20, 20-20) and the University of North Georgia (37-8, 35-8) are listed in the initial rankings.

Other teams listed are Carson-Newman University (26-16, 23-16), Emory & Henry College (31-17, 29-15), Francis Marion University (41-3, 39-3), Lenoir-Rhyne University (27-17, 26-14), Lincoln Memorial University (29-16, 25-16), Tusculum University (34-12, 30-12), and Wingate University (33-17, 28-16).

The Saints overall strength of schedule is .531, which is 13th in the region. Flagler's KPI (Kevin Pauga Index), which is a system that assigns numerical values to game results depending on the site and quality of the opponent, is 0.236. The national tournament selection criteria are based on, in no particular order: in-region winning percentage, KPI, D2 strength of schedule, D2 head-to-head competition, and results vs. common D2 opposition.

The NCAA regional rankings are the official rankings used by the committee to select the national tournament field. The field will be comprised of 64 teams and the Southeast Region will have eight teams playing at two different sites. However, two more polls are to be announced until the official release of the 64-team field on Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m. Eastern.
