ST. AUGUSTINE –
Eli Maddox hit a bases-clearing double in Flagler College's six-run seventh inning in a 6-1 victory over USC Beaufort in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Thursday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 27-15 overall and evened its Peach Belt record to 11-11. USC Beaufort dropped to 8-32 overall and 4-18 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at 5 p.m.
Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh,
Tripp Davis and
George Gilson started the rally with back-to-back walks.
Jaden Ross followed by reaching first on a sacrifice bunt attempt as the throw to force out Davis at third was not in time. Two batters later,
Mason Gray got hit by a pitch to tie the game. USC Beaufort changed pitchers and brought in Brayton Willmes.
Caden Kresak greeted him with an RBI-single to left and then Maddox unloaded the bases with his double to left-center field.
Saints starter
Ben Stubbs (6-1) was in control as he tied his career high in strikeouts with 12. He allowed one run on three hits in seven innings to log the victory. Stubbs retired 13 of the last 15 batters he faced.
Steven Reiss tossed two scoreless innings in relief.
Taylor Shultz collected a pair of infield singles and scored a run for Flagler. Kresak finished with two hits, he scored a run and had one run batted in.
Alex Simmons (1-7) took the loss on the hill for the Sand Sharks. He allowed four runs on five hits in 6.1 innings. Simmons walked four batters.
Joe Turner hit a triple while Jon Davis added an RBI-double.
