DAHLONEGA, Ga. – Luke Earnhardt (8-1) and Zach Green combined for a three-hit shutout as No. 16 (ABCA Division II Top 25) University of North Georgia downed Flagler College 3-0 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Saturday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.
North Georgia improved to 29-11 overall and 17-3 in the Peach Belt. Flagler dropped to 26-14 overall and 10-10 in conference play. The same two teams meet tomorrow at noon to conclude the series.
Earnhardt scattered three hits in eight innings with seven strikeouts to pick up the win. He induced 10 ground outs and five fly outs. Green retired all three batters he faced in the ninth.
Andrews Opata led off the first inning for the Nighthawks with an infield single and went on to steal second and third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly Nicholas Stinson to give North Georgia a 1-0 lead.
The Nighthawks added three runs in the bottom of the eighth for insurance.
Opata collected two singles and scored two runs for North Georgia.
Cooper Smith (2-4) allowed one run on three hits in seven innings to get the loss. He struck out a career high eight batters. Smith retired 11 of 13 batters.
Drew Rosenberg and
Parker Adams saw time in relief.
Tripp Davis,
Caden Kresak, and
George Gilson all hit singles for the Saints.
