TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 5 Flagler College women's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 win over the University of Tampa in a non-conference match Saturday morning at the Naimoli and Young Family Tennis Center.
The Saints improved 8-1 while the Spartans fell to 1-6. Flagler hosts Saint Leo University on March 14 at 11 a.m. at the Pollard Tennis Center,
Flagler started the day by winning all three doubles matches. No. 35
Dana Heimen and
Anastasia Nikolova made quick work of Nicole Cierniak and Victoria Sanchez, defeating them 6-1. To secure the doubles point,
Sofia Balsera and
Adela Latalova swept Ida Axelsson and Linn Eriksson Sunding, 6-0.
Eryka Kruk and
Polya Nikolova earn the third win of doubles play, defeating Nicole Casas and Sophia Gutkowski, 6-4.
Balsera remains undefeated on the season, earning the second point for the Saints after taking down Sophie Wagner 6-3 and 6-4. No. 3 Heimen defeated the only ranked player for the Spartans, No. 51 Nicole Casas, 6-2 and 6-3 to put the Saints up 3-0. The deciding point came from Kruk who took her match 6-3 and 6-2 over Alexandra Chebli.
Latalova and No. 67 Anasasia Nikolova rounded out the final to wins for the Saints. Latalova put the Saints up 5-1 after defeating Axelsson 7-5 and 6-1. Nikolova earned her first win as a ranked player in three sets against Sanchez. After dropping the first Nikolova went 6-2 and 6-1 to cap the team win.
