ST. AUGUSTINE - No. 6 (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College cruised to a 4-0 win over No. 45 Saint Leo University this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Lions get their second loss of the season, moving to 9-2. The now 9-1 Saints have a quick turnaround, hosting No. 2 Nova Southeastern University at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
In doubles play, the Saints saw some resistance but took the point none the less, winning two of the three matches.
Dana Heimen and
Anastasia Nikolova got the first win for the Saints against Luzia Obermeier and Kamilya Shailina, 6-4.
Sofia Balsera and
Adela Latalova had their match against Madelyn Martin and Catharine Rabatin go into a tie break, with the Saints coming out on top 7-6 (7-2).
Prior to the stoppage, both Latalova and Nikolova were winning their matches. Against Shailina, Latalova won the first set 6-2 and was up 2-1 in the second. Nikolova's match against Claudia Borbon Roca was still in the first, where she was up 5-2.
In each of the three Saints singles wins, the Lions did not put up more than two points.
Eryka Kruk and Balsera both defeated Rabatin and Martin 6-2, 6-0. Heimen had the best match for Flagler, going undefeated against Obermeier, 6-0, 6-1.
