ST. AUGUSTINE –
Eli Roberts (1-0) tossed 5.1 scoreless innings and struck out a career-high eight batters to help lead Flagler College to a 5-1 win over Assumption University in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday night at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 13-5 overall while Assumption fell to 0-7. The Saints venture out on the road to face Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference three-game series starting on Friday at 6 p.m.
Roberts cruised through the first four innings as he did not allow a hit until Jamison Howland singled to lead off the fifth inning.
Steven Reiss,
Jake Hill,
Isaiah Wellman,
Clay Callan, and
Drew Rosenberg all worked in relief for the Saints.
Jesse Sullivan hit an RBI-single in the first inning to give Flagler the quick lead and
Mason Gray's run-scoring single to left in the third inning proved to be the game-winning hit.
Flagler tacked on unearned runs in the fourth and sixth innings, and then added another run in the eighth.
Gray finished with two singles and one run batted in for the Saints.
Taylor Shultz hit a double and scored a run.
Alex Messig (0-1) scattered seven hits and allowed two earned runs over in six complete innings to get the loss for the Greyhounds.
Cody Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and he scored a run for Assumption. Howland finished 2-for-3 with a double and had one RBI.
