COLUMBUS, Ga. –
Tripp Davis hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning and
Ethan Bobo shut the door on the mound as Flagler College defeated Columbus State University 7-4 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
Flagler improved to 14-5 overall and evened its Peach Belt record to 2-2. Columbus State dropped to 8-9 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The same two teams meet in a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
With the score tied at 4-all in the top of the fifth inning,
Kevin RisCassi came up as a pinch hitter to start the frame and was hit by a pitch. After a ground out moved RisCassi to second,
Eli Maddox hit a ground ball through the hole on the left side of the infield and the Saints had runners at the corners. Davis hit the second pitch he saw over the left field wall to give Flagler a 7-4 lead.
Bobo came in to pitch in the seventh inning and he retired all nine batters he faced to earn his fourth save of the year.
Drew Rosenberg (1-0) earned the win in relief after tossing 1.2 scoreless innings. He stuck out three and allowed two hits.
Ben Stubbs started and surrendered four runs on five hits in 4.1 innings.
Maddox went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs batted in, and he scored two runs. Davis went 2-for-3 with a home run with three RBI.
Mason Gray collected two singles and scored a run.
Ryan Suppa (2-3) took the loss for Columbus State. He allowed seven runs on six hits but did strike out seven batters.
Cody Ferguson finished 2-for-4 with a double with an RBI.
