AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern State University scored eight unanswered runs to rally past Flagler College 8-3 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday night at Hurricane Stadium.
Georgia Southwestern improved to 21-12 overall and 9-4 in the Peach Belt. Flagler fell to 22-9 overall and 7-6 in conference play. Due to the weather forecast, the two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 3 p.m.
Eli Maddox capped a three-run third inning with a two-run home run to give Flagler the early lead.
The Hurricanes scored one run in the bottom of the third and added two more in the fifth to tie the game at 3-all. RBI singles by Jarrett Jenkins and David Hernandez in the sixth gave Georgia Southwestern the lead for good.
Andrew Geiger (6-2) picked up the win after allowing three runs on eight hits with 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Hernandez went 4-for-5 with a double and he finished with four runs batted in. Corey Lee collected three singles. Matthew Manuel went 2-for-3 with a double and he scored three runs.
Steven Reiss (1-3) took the loss in relief for the Saints. He allowed one run on one hit in one inning of work.
Ben Stubbs started and surrendered three runs on six hits with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings.
Keegan Leckband,
Blake Pesante,
Clay Callan, and
Parker Adams all worked in relief.
Maddox went 2-for-4 with the home run and two RBI for Flagler.
Jacob Reeves finished with a pair of singles and scored a run.
