ST. AUGUSTINE –
Eli Roberts (2-0) tossed seven-plus scoreless innings while
Ethan Bobo finished the game to preserve the shutout as Flagler College defeated Florida Tech 4-0 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday evening at Drysdale Field.
Flagler improved to 22-8 overall and 4-1 in games played on Tuesday. The Saints have won the last four Tuesday games in a row. Florida Tech dropped to 17-15. Flagler heads to Americus, Georgia to face Georgia Southwestern State University in a three-game Peach Belt Conference series this weekend. The first game is Friday at 6 p.m. at Hurricane Stadium.
Roberts only allowed two hits and struck out five for the Saints. He retired 21 of the first 22 batters he faced. The only blemish he had was a base hit by Pedro Figueroa in the first inning. Bobo allowed one hit and fanned two in his two innings of work.
Eli Maddox came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out in the third inning. He ripped a single to right-center to score two runs and the Saints had runners on the corners. Maddox stole second and, on the throw, Shultz broke from third and scored easily to give Flagler a 3-0 lead.
Caden Kresak added an RBI-single the seventh inning.
Ryan Spitzer (0-1) took the loss on the mound for the Panthers. He allowed three runs on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Josh Beck and Bryson Walker worked in relief. The Panthers staff issued nine walks.
Noah Burke and Brett Kelly had the other two singles for Florida Tech.
