No. 6 Saints get their second sweep in a row

ST. AUGUSTINE - The No. 6-ranked (ITA Division II Top 25) Flagler College women's tennis team earned their second sweep (7-0) in a row this afternoon against Lenoir-Rhyne University at the Pollard Tennis Center.

With this win the Saints moved up to 6-1, their best start to the season since head coach Rod Puebla took the reigns during the 2016-2017 season. Lenoir-Rhyne (4-1) was handed their first loss of the season. The Saints hit the road this week to take on the University of Tampa on Friday at 10 a.m.

During doubles play, the Saints went 2-1 against the Bears. The first win for the Saints came from Sofia Balsera and Adela Latalova against Alexa Allison and Enrica Favaron, 6-2. The sealing win came from Dana Heimen and Anastasia Nikolova over Runa Muderrisoglu and Claudia Orsini, 6-3.

In singles, the first win came from Polya Nikolova over Natalie Howell 6-1, 6-4. Anastasia Nikolova earned the second singles point for the Saints after defeating Orsini 6-2, 6-4. Latalova took her match over Nellie Wahlberg 6-3, 6-2. Balsera was the last Saint to to finish her match in two sets, defeating Favaron 7-5 then won her tiebreak 7-6 (8-6). 

Heimen and Muderrisoglu split 6-2 sets before Heimen finished the match 6-3. The final match of the day came from Eryka Kruk, playing a three set, two tiebreak match. Dropping set one 7-6 (7-2), Kruk took set 6-2 before defeating Esther Magnusson in a pro set, 10-6.
