MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. –
Destiny McClendon scored 12 of her game-high 19 points in the second half in Flagler College's 67-65 loss to Georgia College & State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday afternoon at the Centennial Center.
Georgia College improved to 13-9 overall and evened its PBC record to 6-6. Flagler is now 8-12 overall and 4-7 in conference play. Seven of Flagler's 12 losses have been by fewer than 10 points. Up next for the Saints is Columbus State University on Monday at 5:30 p.m. at Flagler Gym.
Georgia College used a 16-0 run that spanned the end of the first quarter and a little of the start of the second quarter, 4-minutes and 32-seconds in total, to pull away early. GCSU held a 46-27 lead at the break.
The Saints chipped away and used a 17-3 run of its own to pull within a point.
Se'Lah Reddick made back-to-back layups to get Flagler back into the game, down 55-54 with 7:39 left to play. Reddick scored seven points, grabbed seven rebounds, tallied six assists, and had three steals.
The Bobcats lead was never more than four the rest of the way. McClendon's jumper with 11 seconds left cut the deficit to two (65-63), but Evie DePetro sank two free throws with seven seconds left to put the game out of reach. McClendon made a layup at the buzzer.
Marley Smith came off the bench to provide 12 points and four rebounds for Flagler. Abbey Smith added 10 points and grabbed a season-high nine rebounds.
Carleigh Grimm contributed eight points, six rebounds, and blocked one shot.
Miracle Parker led the Bobcats with 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting against her former team. Ashyia Willis added 11 points and tallied five assists while DePetro chipped in with 11 points. Jada Warren corralled a game-high 18 rebounds.
